Cooten Bay, a pebble and rock beach, is just a 2 minute walk from Surfside Gardens, from the gates just head down the pathway. If you walk along the beach or through the trees near the bottom of the pathway, to your right you will find a ruin of a building that was part of a sugar plantation. There is one cannon between the ruin and the beach and another, partially buried, slightly further along.
Around the ruin, in the area between the house and the beach there are a number of very large trees, many of which have ‘Tarzan style’ vines hanging from them. On the left hand side, looking up towards the house, there is a ghut containing many large boulders and rock pools.
There is a very primitive pathway from the far right side of the beach right across to Josiah’s Bay. I’ve never tried walking it but some of our guests have. If you want to try it, I recommend taking the machete that can be found in the planter between the outside steps and the laundry cupboard, just in case the bush has grown over the path.
